Our 9th Season? Wow!

“The great thing about jazz is that innovation isn’t frowned upon; It’s the point! This means even a cheap demo can have great ideas. Or hearing someone known for one thing, but doing something else, even if perhaps unsuccessfully….it’s illuminating and entertaining…sometimes, even enjoyable!”

“It’s ok to be challenged and my hope is that everyone will discover something really cool…

with Jazz Gone Wild, my mission is to surprise you. Laughing one minute and blown away the next. Some love scat. Some don’t get it. The same song will get different reactions and I’m happy to know there is nothing I can do about it. People recorded this music with the intention of sharing it. I can only imagine they would be pleased to know it’s being played, even if, for some, it’s twenty years later!”

- Jaymz Bee

About your host

Your Producer and Host, Jaymz Bee

Jaymz Bee has spent most of his life in radio, from Campus to AM Talk Radio and for the past 21 years for Canada’s Jazz Station, JAZZ.FM91. His first show was called “The Bruised Ego Hour” (and later “Celebrity Sound Circus”) for CKLN radio. It was syndicated to other campus radio stations across Canada, from St. John’s to Victoria. The Jaymz Bee Radio Show on CFRB 1010 was next, a brief stint at Mojo Radio for the show “Cloak & Dagger” and then to JAZZ.FM91 where he continues to host the show “Jazz In The City” as well as "Jazz Gone Wild" and "Jazz Gone Wild-ish".

Bee always collected vinyl that nobody seemed to want. Of his thousands of records there wasn’t a single LP by The Who, Led Zeppelin or other golden chart toppers of the day. Bee had a 45rpm record collection of celebrities who probably shouldn’t have bothered: Herve Villichaise, David Carradine…he even had a DoubleLP from William Shatner on K-Tel. This was before Rhino Records released “Golden Throats” and was almost impossible to find at the time. He loved this collection and sold a show to EnRoute FM so people could hear his unique taste in “irritainment” while flying on Air Canada.

Aside from radio, Jaymz Bee has always been booking festivals, clubs, charity galas and all kinds of special events. He’s received thousands of demos from all kinds of bands in all genres of music over the past 30 years.

“Jaymz Bee has a way of lovingly presenting the wacky and off-centre jazz world gone wild. It’s not so much mockery as absurdist shockery!”

- Alex Pangman

"Jaymz' show is like the Dr. Demento of jazz. The show moves fast and lively, and only Jaymz Bee could unearth a trove of hidden weird nuggets like this.”

- Mark Breslin (Yuk Yuk’s)

"This is possibly my fave radio program ever. Perfect after-midnight madness." - John Alcorn
